WHAT IS SINKHOLE?
Sinkhole is a natural depression or hole in the Earth's surface caused by karst processes.
Krast processes -the
chemical weathering of carbonate rocks or suffosion processes.
Sinkholes are depressions that occur when soil or bedrock has been removed and only air remains, commonly when the rock below the land surface is limestone,carbonate rock or salt beds that have been naturally dissolved by ground water circulating through them and then the water dries up. As the rock is dissolved by water(dissolution), spaces are created(suffosion) and typically sinkholes happen suddenly because the surface stays infact until the weight becomes too much. Sinkholes maybe formed gradually or suddenly. It can be different size from 1 to more than 100 feet deep and in different shape.FORMATION OF SINKHOLE
There are two causes to formation of sinkhole, Natural Formation and Human Activity.
Natural Formation of sinkhole is through the process of suffosion.For example, groundwater may dissolve the carbonate cement holding the sandstone particles together and then carry away the lax particles, gradually forming a void. Sinkhole formation under human activity is rare but still occasional collapse of abandoned mines in places like West Virgina, USA. Over pumping and extraction of groundwater and subsurface fluids also human activities that causes sinkhole.
SINKHOLE CAN BE REPAIR & GOT SIGNS TO SHOW
These sinkhole might be very dangerous because it will causes building collapse and danger human or animal. Sinkhole in Guatemala is a very good example, if did not prevent it properly. There are several way to repair sinkhole and signs to tell whether a places got sinkhole or not. To repair sinkhole what we need to do is state certified contractor. Sinkhole remediation process also can help repair sinkhole. Dying vegetation unexpectedly, new ponds forming and slumping signpost, all of these are the signs of sinkhole already occurred.
